Why isn’t my documentation being accepted?

There may be a number of reasons why your reasonable accommodation request could not be granted at this time.

The documentation provided may not have contained sufficient information to determine that you have a non-observable disability and disability-related need for an assistance animal. Although your documentation may have been accepted by a housing provider in the past, a housing provider has a right to make the truth and accuracy of information provided when a reasonable accommodation is being requested.

This is why we verify that documentation is current and is considered reliable according to the HUD guidelines.

When you are requesting a reasonable accommodation, you must:

  1. Have a documented disability-related need for the animal.
  2. Obtain documentation from a licensed health professional who has personal and professional knowledge of your condition and can attest to your disability-related need for the assistance animal.

OurPetPolicy checks the reliability of your documentation in accordance with HUD guidelines. This involves verifying that the documentation is from a legitimate patient-provider relationship and that it meets the required standards for confirming a disability-related need.
